Well, let's think about this. How do you market a tool like this? Part of the marketing strategy is in its name, and 'power' has a sense of strength and, well, power (!) in its meaning. It's a much more engaging name than Tableau, don't you think?
Hi All,
Newbie here, in search of the answer to a very simple question: Why is PowerBI called PowerBI? The BI-part, yes, obvious. But why 'Power'?
The same answer will apply to the other members of the PowerFamily, i presume?
Curious,

Thanks Ali, yes, part of the explanation, especially regarding PowerBI, is 'because of marketing'. Yes, PowerBI is a separate product, so a valid argument.
But. PowerQuery is part of (....) and Excel 2016. So the marketing-argument is not relevant here.
If you really want to know, you are asking in the wrong place: try Microsoft.![]()

In 2016 they rebranded it as Get and transform so that it would be less intimidating to normal users, so yeah, it's all marketing.![]()
