I have a duty watchbill and I have a which has a list of names and when people are duty. I use a points system to make it fairer weekend duties being worth more and weekday duties less. At the moment I am manually updating the points. How do I make excel update my points table whenever someone's name gets put in the watchbill and adds the number corresponding to how much the duty is worth.

Also sometimes weekday duties need to be worth as much as weekend duties if they are a day off

why not upload a sample workbook showing your structure and points system, also include a before and after scenario for: Normal workdays, Weekend work and weekend work when they are off.
    Kind regards,
