Finding out totals from a series of Data entries

Hi,

I am struggling to find out how to query a table of information. It is for a fishing club where there are serving and retired members, some of both groups have a full or a half rod. How best to find out the total of those serving or retired who have a full or a half rod please ?

eg - numbers are just examples

3 half rods serving
5 full rods serving
3 half rods retired
2 full rods retired

Example of my table below Any advice most gratefully received !

If I understand well, try COUNTIF function
