Hello,

I'm looking for a way to compare 2 columns of text, so that if the word in column1 matches a word within a given range for column2 it is highlighted a particular color. I'm trying for 3 ranges (eg, A1:A25=highlight red, A26:A100=highlight yellow, A101:A500 highlight green) I've been struggling for hours trying to find a formula that will perform this operation. If anyone out there is able to help I would appreciate it so much! Marking an adjacent column with the result would also work well for my purposes if that is easier.

You could create 3 different conditional formatting conditions like in the attached spreadsheet

The range to be formatted - a1:a4
3 ranges : b1:b10, b11:b20, b21:b30

To look at the conditional formatting go to Home,Conditional formatting, manage rules, this worksheet. then can double click on any of the formats to see the formula or edit it anyway you wish

in CF the IF condition is implicit so you do not have to use it
