    Dear Experts

Please can someone help me on how to find the average sales of each of the salesman in the coloumn.

column A has names of sales men (repeated) and column B has the sales accomplished.
    The data is huge.

I tried to do averageif()... but I am not able to get a clue on "criteria".

I have sorted based on the name but each salesman name is repeated several times and sometimes only once or twice.

Attached is the sample raw data file. Please can I get the average sales of each person. I will reuse this in our project.

Easiest is probably to create a pivot table based on your data.

    Select your data
    Insert.Pivot_table.Pivot_Table
    Select a location....click: OK
...Drag Salesman to the Row Labels section
...Drag the Sales (In Dollars) to the Values section (it will default to SUM)
...Drag the Sales (In Dollars) to the Values section again.
......Click on the second instance dropdown
    ......Select: Value Settings
    ......Select: Average
......Change the Name if you want to
    ......Click: OK

Now you'll have a summary by Salesman that shows Total Sales and Average Sales.

Is that something you can work with?

    Hi Ron

Thanks a lot for a quick reply. Yes It works and I learnt a few things
    1. Pivot table automatically adds up the values of the repeated reference
    2. We can represent output in various ways. ( total, average, etc)

    Thanks a lot.
    Regards
