Checkbox

I was given an excel spreadsheet to fill out. One section has a checkbox but it will not let me check the box? I know how to put checkboxes in but this form will not let me put the checkmark in. I right clicked the box and selected the Format Control box but there is no Control tab? Any help would be appreciated!
