Hyperlinks: change source cell contents based on hyperlink destination

I have two worksheets in a single workbook. One sheet (labelled 'source') contains a matrix of ones and zeros. All cells with the number 1 are hyperlinked to various cells in a single column on the second workbook (labelled 'destination'). Based on the destination of the hyperlink, I need to change some of the 1s to 2. For example, in the simplified excel sheet attached, any cells on the 'source' page that are hyperlinked to cells 'A1:A3' need to have the number 2 rather than the number 1 (without removing the hyperlink). Any help would be most appreciated!
