Hi,

is there a way to change the background color of a row if one column of that row contains specific text?

please help. thanks.

Absolutely. You want Conditional Formatting.

What version of Excel are you using? 2003 or lower, or 2007 or higher?

Okay, so here's how you do it:
  • Highlight the row you
  • Go to Home-->Conditional Formatting-->New Rule
  • Choose Use a formula to determine which cells to format
  • In the "Format values where this formula is true", enter a formula that checks the text, like this one: =$E$8="My Text" (Obviously you'll need to update for the correct cell reference and text)
  • Click Format-->Fill-->Choose your favourite colour
  • Click OK until you're back at the Excel grid, and you should be good to go.
HTH,
