Auto numbering the matched items in excel

Hi,

I have to reconcile an external stock rec every month, i match the units using vlookup or match function, but the match number i input it manually.

My question is, is it possible to do it with any function or formula.

If the match number is simply incremented by 1 for each pair, can't you just add one to the previous one if the stock code has changed?
