Needed are horizontal and vertical error bars to the chart edge, originating from the most current X-Y, based on index formulas. As new values are posted, the error bars update automatically.

Hi Phil,

In order to have X & Y error bars you need to use a X-y scatter chart rather than Line, which will only allow only Y error bars.
You can make the error bars touch the X and Y axis by setting the Minus value to 100% for both error bars.

Finally because the xy-scatter does not do dates well you will need to fix the x-axis minimum value.

Hi Andy - Thanks for your reply. My thinking was that with the two index formulas, I could use them as a single-point scatter. So there would be two things going on at once: 1. the line chart, and 2. the single-point - with a single horizontal and single vertical error bar (or something looking the same).

Your solution is correct; however, only needed is the current value lines, not every data point.

Is this possible? Seems this would not be especially strange in Excel graphing. The basic idea is to localize values on the axes when there are a lot of values plotted, say a hundred or so. Your thoughts?

The simplest thing is to add another data series with only the 1 point. Apply the error bars to this series.
