    Hi,
    There is probably a simple solution to this, but I can't get it to work. I am setting up a workbook where Column A is set to the current date/time, based on Column B being populated. Column A should contain the word 'Blank' until a value is added. Using the following formula provides the date and time, but updates every line 'when the spreadsheet is opened, or a new row added.
    =IF(ISBLANK(B59),"blank",NOW())

    Is there a simple way to set Column A to the date/time of when Column B is populated, and not have it overridden??

    Try:

    =IF(B59="","blank",NOW())

    or

    =IF(ISNUMBER(B59),NOW(),"blank")

    Note: If you only need date, then use TODAY() instead of NOW()... the latter gives date and time.
