default template

Is there a default template for Excel which defines the standard layout of a new file? If so, what is its name?

If I edit that template to look the way I wish, will all new files automatically be layed out the same?

I have tried the save Book.xltx template procedure, but I am not seeing the result.

I'm not sure I have it where it needs to be.
