I'm trying to earn a few points at work, so hope someone can help. I work in large construction, and most of the job info is kept in spreadsheets on the network. Each time a new job is awarded, a new file folder and subfolders are copied from a template to create the new job folder - the subfolder names are the same; only thing that changes is the main folder name and the directory path.
-New Job
.....- Drawings
.....- Estimate
..........- Job Bid
..........- Sub Quotes
.....,,,,,- Equipment Quotes
.....- POs
..........- Equipment POs
There are file templates throughout each subfolder for things like purchase orders, invoices, etc. Right now, each time we complete these files for a different job, we have to enter a bunch of redundant information (company names, addresses, etc), which is very time-consuming. My vision is to create one
" job info" file inside the new job folder that can be populated with all the recurring info and then set all the other files throughout the tree to automatically pull as many fields as possible from this file.
I know how to do this when a file location is static, but I have no idea how to do it when the file location changes each time the new job folder is created. I don't know if it can be done via formula or whether it requires programming. Can someone help me?
