Is there a way other than manually to group either in the raw data or in pivot table by like numbers and like names? Say the first three digits of a number and the first four digits of a name. Need to combine by grouping and get summaries of sales amount by those groupings.. Thanks.

Add 2 more columns to the raw data...
use formula like:
=LEFT(A2,3) to extract the first 3 characters of cell A2, then copy down (adjust formula as necessary and use similar in other columns).
Then use these columns in your Pivot Table to summarize.
