I have an Excel spreadsheet where Sheet1 contains a series of numbers and a line chart that graphs those numbers. I want to make a copy of the page so I can work on the numbers without changing the original data.

Steps:

  1. Create a new Sheet2
  2. Click on Sheet1 tab
  3. Control A to select the entire sheet
  4. Control C to copy data and chart to clip board
  5. Click on Sheet2 tab
  6. Control V to paste everything onto Sheet2

The new sheet looks identical, but the Sheet2 line chart still points to all of the data from Sheet1.

Is there a way to make a duplicate copy of a page and have the newly created chart point to the data on the newly created page, not point to the original page?

With further investigate and experimentation I have the answer for those who might read this to find out how to do it!

  1. Right click on the tab you want to copy
  2. Select "Move or Copy sheet..." from the pop-up menu
  3. Check the "create a copy" box and select the location for the copy of the tab.
  4. Confirm selections with OK.

This will make a full copy of the sheet, including the chart, and keep the chart links pointed to the tab you just created.
