Column formatting help

I need to format a column to hold 12-digit upc codes. column A is custom formatted to 000000000000 which display my 11-digit string plus the beginning 0. now, when i try to copy and paste this column on column B and then save it, it reverts the whole column minus header from custom to text and deletes the beginning 0. what can i do?

Format column B the same way.
