  1. Web Stats

    Today Christoper Fennell of Excel and Access asked about web stats, so just took a quick look at mine. Due to a change in tracking back in October I had to estimate, but based on traffic from Jan 1 - now, annualized assuming no growth, ExcelGuru.ca sees:

    • 337,000 visitors per year
    • 279,000 of those visitors are unique
    • 552,000 page views per year


    Wow! I didn't realize that it had grown up that high!

  3. Looking Back Over 5 Years

    A few years ago I worked with Steve French of Infomatix on time managment techniques. One of the things we talked about was getting into a daily goal setting habit, with a key point of that being reviewing the previous days goals. It was an important point that you need to recognize that you have had success to pump you up to challenge the next goal. Helps you recharge your batteries in a way.

  4. PowerPivot - It sure would be nice if...

    I've been doing a lot of work with PowerPivot where I connect to databases. My normal development cycle is as follows:

    • Connect to a view or table, pulling in ALL columns
    • Work through my data scenario until I've worked out my logic and solve the issue I'm trying to solve
    • Cut the table/view query down to just the required columns
    • Add WHERE clauses to cut the data down to just the bare minimum I need
    • Deploy to my users


    By doing all this, I really focus on trying ...

  5. Retrieving Selection From A PivotTable Slicer

    After discussions with a friend the other day, I thought it might be worth pulling together an entry to show how to get the selected item from a PivotTable Slicer into a formula. This approach allows you to drive dynamic chart titles, or based other logic off a slicer as well.
